Afghanistan Mohammad Gul “Ghafoorzai”

After graduating from high school in 1991, in Kabul, I moved to the Baghlan province because of the civil war. Unfortunately, I could not further my education so I started a private business along with my colleagues who attended the English Language institute. Afterwards, I was assigned as a teacher in the institute for almost four years, then I worked as a provincial training officer in the Baghlan province Independent Election Commission (IEC) for presidential and parliamentarian elections.

In 2011, I began working as field monitor in Balghan province and this work led me to CTG.I joined CTG as a cluster coordinator on 12 October 2015; I remember the day clearly.

I have a dream to complete my education and in March 2014 I got the chance to turn my dreams into reality when I started studying Management Science at the university. I will be graduating in January 2018. I aim to get my Masters and then a Doctorate. CTG enabled me to afford it; it is my job that has made this all possible.

The work we do is not a simple task. To succeed, you need to have knowledge of the community and cultural differences, people management, conflict management and time management. You have to be a sharp and rational decision maker, as well as an active listener and have a lot of patience.

I believe CTG’s hard work will will help us build up a hunger-free society and create a more developed society.

I have learned a lot from working with communities that are culturally different from mine and how to manage the problems they’re faced with. Attending numerous training sessions and providing plenty of training to the team on a provincial level has sharpened my leadership, management, training and communication skills.

At the end of the day, I feel proud of the work that I do helping the communities that are suffering from food insecurity.
